LUKS + LVM root on Debian is a breeze, in fact the installer does everything for you. And the Ubuntu Desktop CD? Well, not so much, unfortunately. You could use the alternate or server CD, but this was not possible for me, I only had the desktop CD on a USB Stick. In any case, since Ubuntu also uses apt, its really just more or less a matter of installing what’s missing, dpkg will do the rest!
